Piedra del Fraile

Piedra del Fraile

The historic gateway to the Southern Patagonian Ice Field

About the experience

Piedra del Fraile is one of the oldest refuges in the area — a true classic of Patagonian mountaineering. Sheltered from the wind, deep in the Río Eléctrico Valley and close to the Ice Field, it has welcomed climbers heading for the Fitz Roy massif and passing hikers for decades. Arriving here feels different: a relaxed, friendly, meeting-point atmosphere — the perfect refuge for the boldest adventurers.

At the foot of the Marconi Range, this historic refuge is the ideal base for technical expeditions.
