Puesto Cagliero sits facing the Cagliero Glacier and Laguna del Diablo, in the heart of the Los Huemules Reserve, with just five rooms — enough to keep the mountain centre stage. You arrive after walking through native forest, the Patagonian wind marking every step, and the fire in the panoramic lounge greets you as if it already knew your name. You eat well, sleep better, and for a while the world narrows to the essentials.

Framed by the rugged beauty of the Los Huemules Reserve, Laguna del Diablo and the Cagliero Glacier, this refuge offers an intimate, unforgettable experience.

Getting to Puesto Cagliero

From El Chaltén, head to the trailhead in the Los Huemules Reserve, 17 km from the town centre. There are shared shuttle buses on set schedules or taxis — we can help you arrange transport.

Check in at the Los Huemules reception between 9 am and 6 pm. You'll get a short briefing and they'll show you on the map how to reach Puesto Cagliero.

A 6 km trail, moderate difficulty, through native forest and along the Río del Diablo — about 3 hours.

Suggested Itinerary

9:00 – 12:00 Arrival at Los Huemules (optional: reserve trail to Laguna Verde and Laguna Azul)

12:00 – 15:00 Arrival at the refuge — lunch by prior reservation (served between 12 and 2 pm) or straight to afternoon tea

16:00 Short trek to the Cagliero Glacier viewpoints

20:00 Communal dinner: a three-course Patagonian meal

8:00 Energising breakfast

10:00 Check-out and hike back out
